Spencer Pigot Clinches USF2000 Cooper Tires Winterfest Championship

Spencer Pigot kicked off his 2012 racing season in style this week by clinching the six-race Cooper Tires USF2000 Winterfest Championship. The rising American star claimed two wins on Monday and Tuesday at Sebring International Raceway, then proceeded to sweep all three races this weekend at Palm Beach International Raceway, each of them from the pole with fastest race lap, to earn a maximum possible 99-point haul and secure the title with one race remaining.
Pigot, 18, from Orlando, Fla., qualified Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing's #2 Team Pelfrey/E-merging Technologies/Parathyroid.com/California Scents/Mazda/Cooper Tires Van Diemen comfortably on pole position at both venues, using the experience he gained from last season to excellent effect. In addition to his five wins, Pigot also claimed one second-place finish to secure the title by a margin of 187 points to 140 over his teammate Trent Hindman.
